Signs of a gas leak
Pipes, bayonet points or appliances powered by gas can develop gas leaks over time which must be dealt with as a priority. Some gas leak signs include the following:
- Potent smell like rotten egg or the smell of sulfur
- Bubbling in your water
- Hissing or whistling like sound coming from gas appliances or where your gas is installed (e.g. bayonet point)
- White cloud or dust cloud near your gas line
- Your houseplant may start dying
Gas leak symptoms you may experience
If you have a gas leak in your home, you may notice some of these symptoms:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Irritation to your eyes and throat
- Fatigue or drowsiness
- Headaches
- Sudden nosebleeds
If you suspect a gas leak, immediate action is essential
- Evacuate everyone and pets from inside your house immediately
- Open all windows and doors
- Turn off your gas from your gas meter
- Call 000 if you suspect poisoning and require medical assistance (calls should be made outside of your home)
